The month that usually sees the lowest amount of job activity across the year saw the highest levels of jobs posted in 2020. The end of the year was strong for both jobs and applications, indicating a vaccine-induced boost to business confidence.
October experienced a huge spike in applications as redundancies began to mount and huge numbers of candidates competed for jobs. However, applications were also at their highest in October 2019, suggesting an annual trend.Â
From the first three months of the year to the final three, Education experienced the greatest growth in jobs, with strong growth in applications too. Retail, Wholesale experienced catastrophic negative growth over the same time period.
